Join us for an excursion of both legs of the Chattooga & Chickamauga railway. We'll be running against a Steam Train on Saturday - two meets! This is a repeat of the 2007 trips and will be the 8th year of NARCOA excursions on the C&C
Saturday we'll be on the old Central of Georgia, loading in Summerville, Georgia and going north to the outskirts of Chattanooga. Set-on may start Friday afternoon. Be sure to ask for a spin on the turntable! We are running against a steam train from Chattanooga and will have to pass it twice. The cars at the front will actually get into Tennessee for turn-around. Southbound we'll stop at Chickamauga for lunch. We'll then return to Summerville for set-off. Approximately 81 miles round trip. If time permits, we may stop at a track-side cave at milepost 415 on the return to Summerville.
Sunday morning we set on in Kensington (Georgia), a lonely spot in the country outside LaFayette, some 40 minutes from Summerville. This line is the last remaining piece of the Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia RR (The TAG Route). We will go north to the junction with Norfolk Southern in Saint Elmo, Tennessee. This line has 10 crossings that must be flagged, so it's a slow trip, but the scenery is worth it. We should be back around noon or 1 o'clock after touring about 31 miles round trip.
Recommended hotels are in Summerville and Lafayette. Kensington is about a 40 minute drive from Summerville, and 15 minutes from Lafayette. Summerville is about 30 minutes from Lafayette.
Please note these requirements:
Cost: Both days: $150.00. I'm sorry but I can't split the days as I've done in years past. No refunds after October 3, 2006.
Registration forms are available in PDF or MicroSoft Word format.
